How we research
- Every figure is traced to its original source, with the geography and the period it refers to.
- Official statistics and regulations come first. Manufacturer specifications are labelled as such. Commercial cost guides are used only for prices, and never as evidence of a specific job.
- Our own calculations are shown separately, with their inputs.
- Each resource has a published review date and a change log. Errors are corrected promptly.
Using our data
Journalists, publishers, councils and contractors are welcome to quote and chart our figures. Credit the original source shown against each figure and link to the resource page. Data downloads are published under CC BY 4.0, and official statistics within them remain under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
