In short
- K-Rend is a brand made by Kingerlee, based in Oxfordshire, not a type of render.
- The range includes silicone-enhanced through-coloured scraped renders such as K1, silicone thin-coat finishes, base coats and insulation systems.
- Product-backed guarantees normally depend on the installer following the full K-Rend system specification.
- Check that your installer uses K-Rend base coats and mesh with the K-Rend finish, not a mix of brands.
What "K-Rend" means
People often ask for "K-Rend" when they mean any modern, through-coloured render. In fact K-Rend is a product range made by Kingerlee. It includes thicker, silicone-enhanced scraped renders in the monocouche style, thin-coat silicone finishes, base coats, and render-finished external wall insulation systems. So two quotes that both say "K-Rend" may be for quite different products at different prices.
K-Rend scraped finish versus thin-coat
| Silicone-enhanced scraped render (K1 type) | Silicone thin-coat | |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | Thick, around 15–20 mm | Topcoat 1–2 mm over a meshed base |
| Look | Flat, lightly textured scraped face | Fine even grain, crisper arrises |
| Best on | Sound brick and block | Block, board, EWI, previously rendered walls |
| Typical 2026 installed range | £55–£90 per m² | £60–£120 per m² |
Both are through-coloured and do not need painting.
Approved installers and guarantees
We are a K-Rend approved installer. Kingerlee, the manufacturer, supports approved installers and offers product-backed guarantees on qualifying projects. Eligibility is set by the manufacturer and changes over time, so we confirm at survey which product guarantee applies to your job. Our own 10-year written workmanship guarantee is separate and applies to every installation. Our guide to render guarantees explains the difference.
Choosing a K-Rend colour
K-Rend publishes its own colour chart: 20 standard Silicone TC colours, listed in our K-Rend colour guide. Popular choices on Surrey houses are soft whites, warm off-whites and light greys. Pure brilliant whites show dirt quickly on busy roads; very dark colours absorb heat and are harder to finish evenly. Ask for a sample on your own wall. See choosing a render colour.
Questions people ask
Is K-Rend better than Weber?
Neither is universally better. Both are established manufacturers with complete systems. The installer's experience with the specific system matters more than the logo on the bag. See K-Rend vs Weber.
Does K-Rend need painting?
No. K-Rend finishes are through-coloured. They benefit from an occasional gentle clean.
How much does K-Rend cost in Guildford?
Published 2026 ranges run from about £55 per m² for scraped finishes up to £120 per m² for premium thin-coat work, plus scaffolding and preparation. Surrey prices tend to sit toward the upper half.
Can K-Rend go over existing render?
Sometimes, if the existing render is sound and well bonded. Hollow areas must be removed. We test by tapping and by checking adhesion before specifying an over-render.
