K-Rend vs Weber: what is the difference?

They are the two render brands UK homeowners ask for by name. Both make complete, well-established systems. Here is how they compare, and what actually decides the result.

In short

  • K-Rend is made by Kingerlee; Weber is the render brand of Saint-Gobain.
  • Both sell through-coloured one-coat renders, thin-coat silicone finishes, base coats and insulation systems.
  • Colour ranges differ, so if you have a colour in mind, it may decide the brand.
  • Guarantees depend on using one manufacturer's complete system. Mixing brands usually voids them.

Who makes them

K-Rend is made by Kingerlee, a family-owned company based in Oxfordshire. Its best-known product is the K1 silicone-enhanced scraped render, and it also sells thin-coat silicone finishes, base coats and render-finished insulation systems.

Weber is part of Saint-Gobain. Its weber.pral M one-coat monocouche is one of the most used renders on UK new builds, and it sells thin-coat finishes and the weber.therm insulation systems.

How to choose

  1. Colour first. Each brand has its own chart. If one has the exact shade you want, that may settle it.
  2. Installer experience. Ask which system the contractor uses most. A crew fluent in one system usually delivers a better finish in it.
  3. Guarantee. Ask what product-backed guarantee is available for your specific job, and what conditions apply.
  4. System integrity. Base coat, mesh, primer and topcoat should all come from the same manufacturer's system.

What neither brand can fix

No product survives poor preparation or detailing. Hollow substrate, render bridging the damp-proof course, missing mesh at window corners and application in frost or rain cause most failures. See why render cracks.

Colour charts

Each brand publishes its own chart, and colours with similar names can look different. If you are matching an existing house, identify the original brand and colour reference where possible. If you are starting fresh, choose from the chart of the system your preferred contractor uses, and see it on your wall as a sample panel.

Availability and lead times

Both brands are stocked by builders' merchants across Surrey, and standard colours are usually available quickly. Special or bespoke colours may take longer. Ask your contractor about lead times if your programme is tight.

Insulation systems

Both manufacturers offer render-finished external wall insulation systems. For EWI, the system choice includes the insulation type, fixings and details, and should be designed for your wall. See external wall insulation.

Questions people ask

Is K-Rend more expensive than Weber?

Comparable products are priced similarly. The difference between quotes usually comes from preparation, access and labour rather than brand.

Can I use K-Rend on an extension to a Weber-rendered house?

You can, but matching colour and texture across brands is hard. Where possible, use the same system as the existing house.

Are there other good render brands?

Yes. Several other manufacturers sell complete silicone and monocouche systems. The same rule applies: use one manufacturer's complete system.
